For those not in Edmonton, we have a program here called the "Green Shack" program. At various parks thoughout the city, they set up these green shacks staffed by teenagers looking for a summer job. Their job is to hang out with kids, giving them a place to go. They play sports, games, have various toys for them to play with, do crafts, etc. One of the activities they offer is painting of the "green shack". The kids are given paints and brushes and set free to paint whatever they like. Every year they wash it off and start over in the summer.
The park by our house also offers a small wading area and spray deck. It's usually not very busy and shallow enough that I don't have to follow Logan around making sure he's okay. We went there today (and took Dave with us), and Logan got to express his inner Picaso on the Green Shack. It's always so hard for us to get him to leave, and we usually spend a good couple of hours there. These are pictures from him painting.
